Rendezvous Tennis Club Newsletter

Dear Member,

I trust you all had a great Christmas and hope that you did not have too many problems with the recent wintry conditions. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Rendezvous Newsletter during 2008, it was very much appreciated.

As we start another year we had a very good turn out at our Annual General Meeting held on Friday 23rd January 2009 with our Chairman Ronnie McFarland co-ordinating proceedings. The committee were reelected with no changes in personnel, however there was a change in one of the principal officers. Irene McAvoy decided this year not to put her name forward for the position of club secretary.

Irene McAvoy has given many devoted years service working on behalf of Rendezvous Tennis Club as secretary, performing her various duties in a professional, efficient and dedicated manner to ensure the smooth running of our club. She showed a great willingness to devote her time and effort organizing, planning and communicating with all of us and I am sure you will agree her work was very much appreciated not only by her committee colleagues but by everyone within the club.

THANK YOU IRENE from everyone within Rendezvous Tennis Club.Irene continued to show her commitment to Rendezvous Tennis club by staying on the committee taking on the role of being the liaison between the club committee and the Fellowship meetings committee who are responsible for arranging the various speakers.

I am very pleased to advise that Lorraine Heaney one of our Tennis playing members in her second year on the committee agreed to take on the position of club secretary. Lorraine has been a very proactive member of the club and during her time on committee has shown excellent organizational and communication skills which I am confident she will put to good use in her new role. I am sure you would like me to pass on our best wishes to Lorraine in carrying out her new duties.

Many thanks
Ian Burch

THANK YOU FROM GORDON DARRAGH - BAPTIST MISSIONS

I am writing to thank you for your donation to Baptists Missions. It is greatly appreciated.

Your generous support of £150 is making a real difference as we work together for the Lord in Ireland and I do hope that you feel part of our work. Without you prayers and financial support it would not possible to reach out as we do.

As you know we aim to share the life-changing news about the Lord Jesus Chist with people in Ireland, Europe and Peru. We work in the expectation that new churches will be planted and that they will make a difference in those places. Current challenges include helping the little fellowship in Ite, Peru where the church building was lost in a fire last year; support for a group on Nenagh, Co. Tipperary where monthly services will increase to fortnightly in January; a new ministry from a vacant shop unit in Strabane; and a mission team working in the south of Spain to pioneer new outreach ministries from two existing churches. These examples are just a few
of the exciting ways in which we can follow the God of Mission who is building His church.

May this partnership in the Gospel be a blessing to you as you stand with us!

Yours in Christ
Gordon Darragh

Michael and Elizabeth send their Thanks from Cyprus

We received your card and the enclosed cheque for £1000 from our friends in the Rendezvous Tennis Club. What can we say? Please convey to everyone our sincere thanks at this large gift. God continues to supply all our needs in every way and this way is special for us. It’s hard to believe that just over 20 years ago the tennis club gave us a send off with a large gift and have continued to do so through all the years, Thanks. We have not been unaware that the miraculous works of God through these years, especially in saving and keeping, has been because of many who pray for the work and get involved. We are partners together in this.

If anyone doesn’t get regular newsletter, but would like to, please email us at mandew@spidernet.com.cy and we will be glad to add you to our list. Our tennis playing days are behind us but we are still proud to be part of the Rendezvous Tennis Club (as we still are honorary members).

May God bless each of you as you seek to live for Him and serve Him where He has put you. Last night at one of our Bible studies, we were looking at the announcement of Christ’s birth to Mary and were struck again by her simple, humble and obedient words. “I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as He has said”.

Yours together in Christ
Michael and Elizabeth

Greenway Comber Line

I noticed in the previous Newsletter a walk being organized by Brian Burgess along the Greenway Comber Line on 07th March 2009. This walk is now complete. I wrote in a previous edition of the Newsletter the first part of the walk from the Arches to the Old Dundonald Railway Station and now am able to provide an update on the second half completion.

This walk is even better than the first half with its four bridges , three over the River Enler into Comber for a tea break.

I could not make up my mind to bike or walk so I decided to do both. I must admit the bike was very pleasant getting away from the traffic even though I am a keen walker, so why not do both - Two for the price of one.

Second Half - Stage 1 Old Donald Road Bridge

Stage 2 Milmount Road

Stage 3 Over Bridge Billy Neils

Stage 4 Ballyrainy Road Two bridges

Stage 5 Comber

I will be only too glad to give any information on your bike , walk or both – Have a great time.

Articles which members may think are of general interest and relevance to the Rendezvous Tennis Club are also very welcome. Please post or e mail your articles for the next edition to reach me by 30th April 2009.
