THANKS FROM MICHAEL & ELIZABETH in CYPRUS
Please pass on to all the folks at the Rendezvous Tennis Club our very sincere thanks for their large gift of £1100.00. As usual we are humbled by the generosity and love shown to us by you all. It is special and we certainly do not take it for granted. God is ever faithful in supplying all our needs.

I, Michael, enjoyed being with you at the fellowship evening in the Gourley's home. It was great to feel at one with so many, considering we get to see you so seldom. It was a privilege to hear the report from the Bible Society too.

As a matter of interest, I managed to get into the Faith Mission Bookshop in Belfast on the Monday, and there found N I V Study Bibles on offer (slightly shop-soiled) at half price, and when I took 10, they gave me a further discount. We wish you could have seen the fun we had taking all our weight back in the airplane! But better still, we wish you could have seen the joy on the faces of the believers here as we brought them out and explained how they could be used in their personal Bible Study. Elizabeth is still getting texts every night from them, how the Bible is coming alive as they use the cross-referencing to get the fuller picture from God's Word. These young believers have such a hunger to get to know God and His ways better through His Word.

The numbers in our fellowship are still growing, and the opportunities to share God's Word in homes also. We sometimes feel overwhelmed with the opportunities, but then God comforts us by keeping us close to Him and His direction. It's His work, and His responsibility - we are only His following servants.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the club for your prayers (God is answering), your e-mails and letters, and even your visits (in anticipation!). You are truly co-workers with us in the work of the Kingdom of God. Thanks.

May each of you know God's presence, power and leading in your lives as you seek to live for and serve Him.

Yours in Christ's precious name,
Michael and Elizabeth

Fofanny Dam and Butter Mountain Ramble - 5 March 2005
It may have been early March and the trees may still have been devoid of leaves but the sun was shining strongly in the Kingdom of Mourne and for the Ramblers there was every prospect of a fine walk in ideal conditions.

We congregated in the Meelmore Lodge car park and led by Irene McAvoy we proceeded up a track which brought us up into the mountains and shortly we turned right in the direction of Fofanny Dam. As we approached the dam we could see extensive construction work in progress. We walked the length of the dam, then through a wood and up a slope to find ourselves on the Hilltown - Kilkeel Road.

We crossed the road and walked a short distance to a small car park from there we ascended Butter Mountain and once at the top we found a sheltered spot where we lunched. After lunch we descended the mountain and retraced our steps back to Meelmore Lodge where we enjoyed refreshment.

We returned home having enjoyed a totally sun-filled and totally rain-free day in the Mournes.

Bloody Bridge Ramble - 02 April 2005
Our intention was to walk the full length of Brandy Pad which is a path through the Mournes which long years ago enabled brandy to be imported illegally from the coast of Bloody Bridge to the centre of County Down and beyond. The "Pad" runs from the Hare's Gap to Bloody Bridge and this was our route. To make our walk easier, cars were left at the Bloody Bridge car park and the entire group began the walk at Meelmore car park.

Led by Muriel Torrens we made the difficult ascent to the Hare's Gap and once there turned left in the shadow of Slievenaglogh and headed towards the coast. Shortly on our right we could see Slieve Beg, Cove Mountain, Lammagan and Slieve Bernagh and the full extent of the Annalong Valley. The path took us across the Bog of Donard and when we reached a suitable location with lots of stones to sit on, we had lunch.

Late in the afternoon we arrived at Bloody Bridge and though it seemed that we had a simple level walk we did have to contend with crossing fences, boggy patches and several rivers, so we had more of a "mountain challenge" than a mountain walk.

We were fortunate to have experienced superb weather conditions as the sun shone for the full day and some sun hats were in evidence! It was, as some remarked "a perfect day".

We returned to Meelmore Lodge, enjoyed some refreshment and then headed back to Belfast. Thanks to Muriel Torrens for guiding our steps.

Tennis Opening Day - Saturday 09 April 2005
Another year and another Opening Rendezvous Tennis tournament is about to begin with Sixteen players registered to compete. Ronnie McFarland welcomed everyone, explained the rules of the competition and with the draw made, play began.

The weather was mixed, with some wind and a couple of showers, but it did not stop us from completing our three rounds of tennis with many close, entertaining and exciting games. During one of the showers we took the opportunity to have afternoon tea with a few sweet goodies. Very enjoyable and thank you to Maureen Lindsay who helped in the preparation of these refreshments.

Four ladies and four men had now reached the semi-finals and playing the best of five games we soon had our finalists. The final proved to be a competitive, sporting and enjoyable match with some fine rallies.

Ronnie McFarland presented the prizes to all the finalists, with the Runner Up prizes going to Alena Taylor and Peter Shields and the Opening Day winners trophies to Hilary Jewhurst and Graham Lorimar.

Congratulations to all the finalists and a big thank you to everyone who participated in a great day.

Opening Day Dinner - Saturday 09 April 2005
Having completed our tennis tournament we were looking forward to our Opening Day dinner and we were not disappointed. Around 32 club members attended the dinner and once again our caterers provided us with a beautiful dinner. Judging by the empty plates everyone seemed to enjoy their meal.

Following the meal Jane Laverick and Alan Templeton organized a Beetle drive with 26 people participating. It was great fun and certainly helped burn off a few calories as we moved from table to table as each of the twelve rounds were completed.

Having completed all the rounds prizes were presented in the following categories :

Top Score with 389 points Susan McFarland
Low Score with 225 points Susan Johnson
Spot Prize closest to 307 points Isabelle Tyrie (310 points)
Prettiest Beetle: Hilary Jewhurst (each one of Hilary's beetles was a masterpiece)

Congratulations to all the winners and a BIG THANKS to Jane and Alan for organizing the fun event - it really did round off a great OPENING DAY.

Rendezvous Tennis Club Annual Thanksgiving Service

The Annual Praise Service took place on the day after the Opening Day, Sunday
10th April at Knockbreda Parish Church Hall at 6.30 pm.

It took the form of an informal service and was very well attended with almost 30 of our own members augmenting the congregation. As usual, Rendezvous members participated, the prayers being led by John Price and Alan Templeton and Irene McAvoy reading Matthew Chapter 14.

Canon Patterson gave an especial welcome to the members of the club and preached the sermon while the praise was led by the instrumental group. Afterwards Maureeen Lindsay and her team of helpers served supper for all present.

Many Thanks to all who participated and who attended the service.
