MOUNTAINEERING IN COUNTY ANTRIM

Saturday 5th August found eleven of us scaling the heights of "Tievebulliah" just north of Cushendall. It was a very enjoyable day's walking and the 'natives' were really quite friendly as one would expect in open country. Well maybe rather than friendly they were totally detached and disinterested in the gate crashers to their contented grazing. Thank goodness, cos him, all 5 tons of beef and muscle was placidly lying back surveying his entourage of many heifers.

The peaceful scene meant we did not have to escape at a fast pace back to our iron steeds which sped us to half way house near Ballygally. There were no half measures of the delicious snacks served to us hungry mountaineers. They were consumed, Al Fresco, at leisure in the balmy air from the east overlooking the azure blue tranquil sea at Barbados Bay or some said Ballygally Bay.

It was just a wonderful ending to a lovely day - Enjoyed by all.

The following newspaper cutting might precipitate a review by each rambler on the need for a new rucksack!

Joanna Lumley, once the BBC's Girl Friday on a deserted island in the Indian Ocean, has shared her top advice. "You want to know my tip for walking long distances?" says the former Avenger. "Two pairs of good thick socks with medicated talcum powder between them. It never fails." And her other traveling must haves? " I pack two things - my favourite perfume, Rive Gauche, and my husband!"
Must be an awfully big suitcase.

CLOSING DAY

Saturday 30th September was our Closing Day event and the weather turned out to be as miserable as the number of players that turned up to play in the event.

A big Thank you must go to the six players that supported the Closing Day but although there were intermittent showers all the players were determine to play the closing day event.

Play began as a round robin style event where each player would have opportunity to play against each other with four games per match. During one of the heavy showers mid afternoon we took our customary break for light refreshments of tea, scones and cakes. Play continued throughout the afternoon with some of the matches playing through the rain. Conditions continued to deteriorate and as the rain was now constant it was decided to call a close to the tournament at just after 5 pm.

Prizes were awarded to the top four players who had gained the most points from the games played. The prize winners were Ian Burch, Denis Moore, Florence Corrigan and Neil Templeton.

Again a BIG THANK YOU to all who participated in the wet but enjoyable day.

Closing Day Dinner - Saturday 30th September 2006
Having completed our tennis tournament we were looking forward to our Closing Day dinner and 25 club members attended the dinner, a very good turn out for this event. Once again our caterers provided us with a beautiful dinner and judging by the empty plates and the favourable feedback everyone seemed to enjoy their meal.

Following the dinner, our thoughts turned to television with a quiz based on TV Game shows. Each round was based on a different quiz show such as Family Fortunes, Catchphrase, Question of Sport and Who wants to be a Millionaire.

Five teams completed in six different TV Quiz rounds and the eventual
winners were "Ronnies Gang" who were presented with their prizes by Robin Mulholland.

Congratulations to "Ronnies Gang" on being Closing Day quiz winners and thank you to everyone who contributed to a great day.

THANK YOU FROM MICHAEL and ELIZABETH
Please pass on to all at the Rendezvous Tennis Club our sincere appreciation for the love, prayer, interest and financial support for us both and the Lord's work in Cyprus to which he has called us. We want to tell you that the large gift of £1200 given to us last Saturday (4th November 2006) means a lot to us and comes at a time when it confirms the Lord's faithfulness as he leads us.

We shared with you how he is blessing with increased numbers and involvement that have led to the move of premises for the work in December. We are excited as we contemplate the larger place, although we will leave the Upper room with many great memories of God's miracles and blessings.

We pray for you as you continue to be salt and light in a dark world. May the club continue to be a place of fellowship and fun and a witness to the world of our Lord Jesus Christ.

With Love in Christ
Michael and Elizabeth
