Opening Day Dinner - Saturday 31st March 2007

Having completed our tennis tournament we were looking forward to our Opening Day dinner and we were very pleased to get a good attendance for the meal and once again our caterers provided us with a beautiful dinner. Judging by the empty plates and the favourable feedback everyone seem to enjoy their meal.

At the end of the meal Jane Laverick and Alan Templeton organised a Beetle drive for those people who stayed behind. The dice started to roll time and time again until 10 rounds were successfully completed. Hazel Mulholland ran out the winner with a high score of 386, Charlotte Murtagh took the mid score prize with 310 and Ronnie McFarland taking the wooden spoon with a score of 242. Alan Templeton said he had seen some very odd and peculiar beetles during the evening and and the last prize was awarded for the weirdest Beetle to Ian Burch. (I called it very artistic). To conclude the evening Alan and Jane presented the prizes to the winners and thanked everyone for participating.

Many thanks to both Alan Templeton and Jane Laverick for organising this Beetle drive and providing us all with a fun evening.

CLOSING DAY
Saturday 30th September was our Closing Day event and the weather turned out to be as miserable as the number of players that turned up to play in the event.

A big Thank you must go to the six players that supported the Closing Day but although there were intermittent showers all the players were determine to play the closing day event.

Play began as a round robin style event where each player would have opportunity to play against each other with four games per match. During one of the heavy showers mid afternoon we took our customary break for light refreshments of tea, scones and cakes. Play continued throughout the afternoon with some of the matches playing through the rain. Conditions continued to deteriorate and as the rain was now constant it was decided to call a close to the tournament at just after 5 pm.

Prizes were awarded to the top four players who had gained the most points from the games played. The prize winners were Ian Burch, Denis Moore, Florence Corrigan and Neil Templeton.

Again a BIG THANK YOU to all who participated in the wet but enjoyable day.

Following the dinner, our thoughts turned to television with a quiz based on TV Game shows. Each round was based on a different quiz show such as Family Fortunes, Catchphrase, Question of Sport and Who wants to be a Millionaire.

Five teams completed in six different TV Quiz rounds and the eventual

Congratulations to "Ronnies Gang" on being Closing Day quiz winners and thank you to everyone who contributed to a great day.
